These cool high-ceilinged, exposed brick abodes are near the bustling metropolis center, just minutes away from the gorgeous skyscrapers of downtown. A green movement brings tree-lined parks to the cityscape, melding the concrete jungle with nature thanks to Mayor Daley. Streets are lined with boutiques of every sort. Bars and eclectic restaurants spot every city block. Neighborhood bakeries, delis, and produce markets provide cheap authentic food. Culture lines Lake Michigan. The Field Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Shedd Aquarium are only three of the many major museums in town. There are even small cultural museums spread through the many, many smaller neighborhoods celebrating every ethnicity. The architecture is world famous in Chicago, from loft-filled former bomb shelters to the classic skyscrapers like the Sears Tower and the Hancock. New melds with old as the glass and steel towering giants sit beside the white-stoned behemoths from another era. The theater district offers all the latest plays and musicals. Second city remains a nesting ground for improvisational talent, crafting the careers of new celebrities like Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell. Young artists throw shows and parties from their live-in work lofts every weekend in neighborhoods on the rise like Pilsen, Wicker Park, and Logan Square. The city is spread out so you get the urban environment of New York without the congestion. If traffic is too much for you on the three major expressways that go and out of Chicago, then take the elevated train system. It goes in every direction and is surprisingly affordable with gas prices being so high. The city offers sports year-round throughout the city. Take the Red Line north to a day game Wrigley Field in Lakeview Wrigleyville or take it south and get off at the 35th street stop to see night game at U.S. Cellular Field. Soldier Field sits in the reaches of the South Loop plays home to the Bears and the United Center doubles as a basketball and hockey stadium for the Bulls and the Blackhawks. Chicago remains a popular destination from people all around the world. It has the friendly neighborhoods that make the quaint street corner bar not seem out of place and it has the big urban feel that comes with black tie affairs every weekend. The city is changing into a haven for young people and young families. This is the right city to be and the right time. Take a look at very affordable Chicago lofts and prepare to feel at home.
