From its world-class ski slopes to unique shopping opportunities, it’s no secret as to why so many find themselves in Winter Park, Colorado. Winter Park lodging and hospitality is regarded as being some of the most inviting boarding in any ski resort town and typically results in repeat visitors year after year. Though not just a ski town, Winter Park has built up a reputation as a year-round attraction considering its beautiful backdrop and numerous outdoor activities. Initially the area was just a scattering of villages and settlements surrounding the Moffat Tunnel construction project. A local valley merchant, “Doc” Graves recognized the site’s potential and pursued further development, starting in 1923, and built 26 tourist cabins, a café and service station. Much buzz grew about Graves’ mountain getaway, then known as Hideaway Park, and enjoyed some economic prosperity. Much of the village’s success was due to Doc’s idea to power everything by a water wheel he installed at the nearby Vasquez Creek. The settlement continued to build steam and finally, in 1939, the Winter Park Ski Resort opened its doors to visitors. With its three interconnected peaks – Winter Park, Mary Jane and Vasquez Ridge – Winter Park has been world renowned for its world-class skiing. Despite the continued success over the years, it wasn’t until August 1, 1978 that Winter Park was finally incorporated. Heavily fueled by its skiing notoriety, Winter Park has also become recognized for some of its many other fun-filled activities. From dog-sledding to snowmobiles, cross-country skiing to snowboarding and sledding hills, Winter Park has just about anything you could think of to do during the winter months. The town also brings visitors in the summer as well with numerous outdoor sports activities. From miles of hiking trails to rock climbing and mountain biking, Winter Park is the perfect setting to enjoy numerous warm weather activities in clean, crisp mountain air. The town center has much to offer as well with its various specialty shops filled with unique southwestern jewelry and Native American artworks. Local residents also host many hometown events from entertaining festivals to the Annual Snow Mountain Disc Golf Tournament. Whatever it may be someone is after, Winter Park, Colorado is easily
one of the most sought after vacation destinations in the entire state.
No matter what the time of year may be, Winter
Park lodging is always accommodating and the hospitality is second
to none. Winter Park brings so much to the table with its skiing to shopping,
to hiking and site seeing – this mountain village should truly be
enjoyed by all.
