Winter Park Real Estate

In 1922, “Doc” Graves established a small mountain village along the western slope of the Continental Divide known as Hideaway Park. One of the earliest merchants in the valley, Doc began by building 26 tourist cabins, a café and service station all powered by a simple water wheel in the nearby Vasquez Creek. Obviously chosen for its sheer beauty and breathtaking surroundings, the small mountain town grew and prospered into what many today feel is one of the most premiere ski resort locations in the Rocky Mountains. For all of its remarkable views and stoic wonder, what we know today as Winter Park, Colorado, “Doc” Graves knew he had found a gem more than 80 years ago.

Today, Winter Park is commonly referred to as, “Colorado’s Highest,” having the highest elevation of any incorporated town in all of the United States at 12,060 feet above sea level. Officially founded on August 1, 1978, the mountain town has continued to grow with its annexation of neighboring villages and a constantly increasing desire for Winter Park Real Estate. Winter Park plays host to the Winter Park Ski Resort and has enjoyed successful skiing seasons since opening its doors in 1939. Composed of three interconnected peaks – Winter Park, Mary Jane and Vasquez Ridge – the resort boasts a total of 3,060 skiable acres and a total of 143 trails for visitors to test their skills.

Not just a ski town however, Winter Park plays host to numerous outdoor activities year-round. Many flock to enjoy the seemingly endless hiking and mountain biking trails that wind throughout the scenic backdrop of the Rockies. Others hope to land a trophy, wading through crystal clear mountain streams waiting for that elusive trout to pop a fly at the water’s surface. Some simply enjoy a guided horseback ride, or even a trip in a hot air balloon to truly capture a glimpse of Winter Park’s wonder. And some find hidden treasures in one of the many specialty boutiques that line the streets of the town center. Regardless of what someone is after, there’s a good chance that something can be found in Winter Park.

From its earliest days as a quaint mountain village to the modern day outdoor enthusiasts’ haven, Winter Park, Colorado has blossomed into one of the country’s premiere locations to find the rest and relaxation simply not found in the everyday congestion of the city. It’s really no surprise that Winter Park real estate is so highly coveted. Then again, why wouldn’t it be?
